■From the author (excerpt from this book)
The emotions, personality, appearance, and image others have of me that I have cultivated since I was old enough to understand. My attachment to the style of art I have drawn up until now. I unconsciously bound myself to these things, and before I knew it, they had become a source of suffering.
When I thought about changing something from that point on, I felt like I was destroying everything I had built up until then, and the thought of that was scary. But even if the big shape was destroyed, there was still something solidly formed within it. When I realized that it existed, the fear disappeared, and I was able to realize the joy of change.
There are many different selves and many different patterns. If there is one thing among them that is indestructible, I feel like it can take on any shape. If there is one thing that is indestructible, no matter what form it takes, I would like to say that it is "you."
I chose the title "Transformation" to express this feeling. I hope you will enjoy the work, which transforms into various forms, with a variety of feelings.
■Author profile: Soichiro Kato
Born in Hokkaido in 1992. He began learning art in junior high school with the goal of becoming a manga artist.
Currently, as an illustrator, he has worked on book covers such as "Elephant Head" (KADOKAWA) and "Don't disappear, don't disappear" (Kawade Shobo Shinsha), as well as artwork for music, and he also exhibits at solo exhibitions.
His artwork mainly focuses on people. When he creates his works, he values the first impression that both the artist and the viewer have, and he creates his paintings with the hope that the countless imaginations and emotions that emerge from them will become an opportunity for people to become aware of something.
